Balakrishnan Residence

The design aspires to make a statement amidst the chaos of a dense neighbourhood. The layout of the house integrates various user needs of co-inhabiting generations. It uses a playful stairway around an inner courtyard. The form also allows to retain the tradition of community interaction through terraces. An in-kitchen lounge projects itself out into the street. During this project, the studio developed it’s original steel fabrication details for grills, pergolas and stairs. Use of brushed natural granite contrasting with white walls bring subtlety into the context, while a red Agra stone clad elevator shaft creates interest and colour.
