Nandi International School

Set in a hot arid area on the outskirts of Bellary town in Karnataka, the acres of land also face the additional problems of pollution from adjacent mines. The design intervention for the school was to primarily take up afforestation and then placing the school blocks for the classrooms and the residential quarters amongst the courtyards formed with plantation. Each classroom is also connected to its green rear garden plot. Classroom layouts are extended at one end to encourage creative use of space for storage and display. Diffused lighting and controlled ventilation, organisation of semi open informal and formal spaces make the school a sheltered environment.
