Khemka Residence

The residence was designed for a traditional joint family, keen on keeping their value system alive. The courtyard and the verandah, the essential traditional spaces which work around the living space are evident in the design. The scale of the building is related to the traditional bungalows of Calcutta where the origins of the family lie. The use of large louvered shuttered windows and the treatment of the columns of the verandah, the rhythm of repetitive features and forms, also relevant to the local climatic context of Vishakapatnam, emphasise this connection.
